Ceramic tile is commonly used in a home because it’s suitable for many applications. It’s durable, easy to install and clean, and comes in hundreds of styles makes it the popular choice for any room in the house, such as kitchens, bathrooms, or even entryways. If you are looking to renovate on a budget, ceramic offers a great price point – price range from $14 sqm to $60 sqm.
Porcelain tile is another popular choice that is used throughout the home, it is very similar to Ceramic tiles – you get the same elegant finish without any of the upkeep or weathering. Comes in a variety of designs, colours, and is super durable which can be used in high traffic areas and outdoors. In addition, porcelain tiles are remarkable good at mimicking natural stone such as marble or even wood grains. The price is just slightly dearer compared to ceramic tile – price range from $10 sqm to $80 sqm.
Glass tiles have high resistance to stain and are much easier to clean compared to other types of tiles. Thus glass tiles are suitable for swimming pools, bathrooms and kitchens. They come in a wide range of colours and shapes, the glass finish looks stunning both underwater and above the waterline, providing the pool with a shimmer and sparkle that perfectly complements the outdoors. The only drawback is that glass tiles can chip quite easily along the edges. Whilst it can be used outdoor, it’s not recommended for high-traffic areas like kitchen and bathroom floors. Price for glass tiles range from $30 sqm to $500 sqm.
Cement tiles are extremely versatile and can provide you with amazing patterns and colours, making them very popular in modern interior design in recent years. Cement-based flooring is easy to clean and more durable than hardwoods, making it a great solution not only for high-traffic public spaces but also as a material used in homes. Cement tiles can be used on the floors and walls in the kitchen, living room, foyer, dining room, bathroom, and laundry room. They can also be sanded and resealed if they get discoloured over time to maximise longevity. Price range from $25 sqm to $100 sqm.
Marble tiles are highly sought after and a statement of luxury, marble can be a subtle flourish or a bold statement depending on how you design your space. Although costly, marble tile adds an instant touch of elegance and refinement to any kitchen, bathroom, hallway or laundry. In addition to being quite costly, marble requires a lot of maintenance to keep it pristine. Marble tiles are harder to clean and is susceptible to scratches and stains. Thus they are best used in low-traffic areas unless a sealant is applied. Price range from $40 sqm to $220 sqm.
Mosaic tiles range is fun, versatile and colourful. Available in many different shapes, colours, sizes, textures and styles. These luminous tiles can elevate the style and sophistication of any bathroom, kitchen and as a feature in other areas. However, they can be a costly option and maintenance may be difficult in high-traffic areas, thus commonly used as indoor wall applications when an accent is needed. Price range from $100 sqm to $400 sqm.
Granite Tiles is also known as granite pavers, granite is a natural stone that has a similar look and feels to marble because of its natural flecks. Colour and pattern selection is limited being natural stone. It is the cheaper alternative to marble tiles and is widely used for: driveways, pools, patios, walkways, bathrooms and laundries. Granite is highly durable due to its heat and damage resistant, and there is little maintenance needed. Price range from $70 sqm to $150 sqm
Travertine Tiles offers a natural one of a kind aesthetic. Its soft, subdued palette provides beautiful neutral tones. Comes in a variety of natural colours from gray to tan and beige, its swirling surface produces an elegant and unique statement. Travertine tiles are dense and highly durable, however, it’s easily impacted by stains, scratches, etching and traction so it does need to be resealed once a decade. Thus it’s best to use travertine tiles in low-traffic areas of the home, such as the walls instead of floors. Price range from $40 sqm to $100 sqm.
